We here at Encouraging Arts hold a high standard when it comes to our products. We strive to make sure that your school logo, school mascot, and school colors are expertly used during production. Having worked with hundreds of schools, we have the process down and have several school logos and mascots on file.
However, sometimes we might not have your school imagery on file and may request that you send us artwork. Here is where you are going to find some unusual words to someone who isn't in the design or print industry.
Vector
Put simply, vector means that you can take an image and make it as small as a postage stamp or big as a billboard and it will retain its crispness. Typical file extensions for vector are: .ai, .eps, .svg. So when you are looking for your files to send to us, keep an eye out for those.
Rasterize
This basically means that you "flatten" an image and it can only be used in the size that it was created in. There is software that can take rasterized images and convert them into vector art. Encouraging Arts has this technology and uses it all the time. So don't despair if you on have a rasterized image. Extension for rasterized are: .jpeg, .png, .tiff.
RGB or CMYK
These terms stand for uses of color. RGB stands for red, green, blue while CMYK stands for cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. CMYL is generally used for print like business cards or brochures. RGB is more for digital items and websites.
